Braided Hair Large Cent (1839-1857) - The final type for Liberty Large Cents, the Braided Hair Cent was produced from 1839 until the end of large cent production in 1857. Authored by Christian Gobrecht the issue was struck on copper planchets that were 27.5 mm in diameter weighing 10.89 grams. This design is divided into two basic types, the early years being Petite Head (1839-1843) and the later years referred to as Mature Head (1843-1857).
