Winged Liberty Mercury Dime (1916-1945) Started in 1916 The Mercury dime featured a Liberty with wings on its cap. This design reminded many of the Greek God Mercury with his winged helmet and shoes. The design also featured a bowl-shaped field that draws more light into the details offering a radiant display in uncirculated examples. The US Mint Shifted its priority to production of Silver Dollars in 1921 and 1922 reducing the output of smaller coins in 1921 and almost exclusively Dollars in 1922. This produced some of the lowest mintage coins of the 20th century in the US and some of its more desirable collectables such as the 1921 and 1921-D Mercury Dimes. The design was continued thru World War Two till it was replaced with the Roosevelt Dime designed to commemorate the life of former President Roosevelt who was the longest seated President in US History. This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.
