This is a PCGS Graded Coin. You will receive the pictured coin. You are Buying a 1928 Hawaiian Commemorative Half Dollar graded MS-66+ by PCGS. The 1928 Hawaiian half dollar serves as one of the sought-after keys among all commemorative halves. Only 9,958 examples of this single-year type were distributed, with 50 proof examples also minted. The obverse is essentially brilliant. The reverse is lightly toned in blue, lavender, and orange patina with an area of deeper color along the right border. PCGS reports eight four higher submissions. The Hawaiian commemorative half dollar, struck to commemorate the sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of Captain Cook's landing in the Hawaiian Islands in 1778, was a rousing success. Unlike many other silver commemoratives, especially those struck in the 'abusive' commemorative era of 1935-1939, the Hawaiian was a legitimate anniversary, a relatively low mintage coin, and a 'honestly' distributed issue. The Hawaiian halves were sold at an issue price of $2 by the Bank of Hawaii. The original coins minted sold out immediately, even though the $2 issue price was the highest of any commemorative half dollar to that point. The 1928 Hawaiian half dollar was largely distributed in the Hawaiian Islands to members of the general public. Few were saved by contemporary numismatists and the issue is a sought-after key to the series. This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.
