Product Details:
This is a PCGS graded coin. You will receive the coin pictured. You are purchasing an 1908-S Indian Head Small Cent graded VF25 in an PCGS holder. The Indian's Headdress and feather details on the obverse shows moderate wear, however, the overall design remains clear and well-defined, with the date and mintmark still sharp. The 1908-S is one of the key dates in the series, and even in mid-grade conditions like VF25, it is a sought-after piece for collectors. Its historical significance as the first San Francisco Mint Indian Head cent and its relative scarcity make it a prized addition to any collection focused on early 20th-century U.S. coinage.

Coin Features:
  • PCGS graded VF25
  • Known as a Indian Head Small Cent
  • Obverse: Head of Liberty Facing Left wearing a Feather Crown.
  • Reverse: Oak Leaf Laureate with arrows at the base and a Heraldic Shield at the top.

Indian Head Cents Type 3 Bronze (1864-1909) During the Civil War, attrition caused the hoarding of coins struck in gold, silver and copper nickel. This prompted the U.S. Mint to change the composition of the one cent coinage. The remaining years (1864 -1909) the Indian Cent was struck on bronze planchets. This variety was made from planchets of .950 copper and .050 tin and zinc. The diameter of 19mm is the same as previous small cents. The design was from John Longacre’s Indian motif using the head of Liberty dressed in an Indian Feather headdress.

This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.
