Product Details

This is a PCGS Graded Coin. You will receive the pictured coin. You are Buying an 1893-S Morgan Silver Dollar graded XF-40 by PCGS and CAC Approved. Liberty's hair over the ear and the eagle's breast lack full definition, a combination of minor strike weakness and high-point rub. A truly original coin with no significant marks. Miles Standish suggests that only about 12,000 gradable 1893-S silver dollars survive -- a tiny number for the legions of Morgan dollar enthusiasts needing a collectible example of this preeminent 19th century key-date coin. The 1893-S provides collectors with one of the most formidable challenges in the entire Morgan dollar series. It claims the lowest mintage in the set with just 100,000 circulation strikes. Most of those saw extensive use, and relatively few survive in high grades. A very nice original coin with medium gun-metal toning....so original, I wish all circulated 1893-S dollars looks like this one! The key date of the Morgan series.
This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.

Morgan Dollars (1878-1921) - After 1873, there was a short hiatus from U.S. dollar production. But in 1878, the Mint began to again strike silver dollars under the orders of the Bland-Allison Act. Created by Charles Morgan, the new dollar design was produced until 1904 and then again for one year in 1921. The Morgan dollar features a portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse with a crown adorned with wheat, and cotton. The reverse offers an eagle with wings spread clutching a crop of arrows and an olive branch clutched in its talons. The coins were struck in 90% silver and are .7734 of a troy ounce. They are popular today with silver buffs and collectors alike. In fact, they are perhaps the most collected series in all of U.S. numismatics.
