Reverse: Laureate Crown Made of Trade Goods Around ONE DIME
Liberty Seated Dime Legend on Obverse (1860-1873) (1875-1891) In 1860 the Stars were removed from the Obverse and replaced with the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that had previously been on the Reverse. The Reverse was updated with a Laureate made of US Trade Goods of Oak Corn Wheat and Cotton instead of the traditional Olive branches. This design would persist through the Seated Dime to the Barber series with minor modifications.

While this 1883 dime, one of 1,039 proofs struck, is indeed carefully preserved, the real story of this Superb Gem specimen is its outlandish toning. Pale emerald and deeper jade outer hues surround richer blue-to-violet interiors. Strongly mirrored and pleasing.
