Product Details:

This coin is a remarkable piece of early American history, featuring the Capped Bust to Right, Heraldic Eagle, Large 8 with 13 Star Reverse, graded MS-62 by PCGS and designed by Robert Scot. The coin has warm, satiny luster covering pleasing and somewhat uneven light yellow gold surfaces. The reverse showing a bit deeper yellow toning.  A frosty and attractive example of this interesting die marriage. The absolute centers are a bit soft, as always seen on this variety, but other areas are quite sharp. The visual appeal is nice, though some minor hairlines and scattered contact points are seen under a glass. The central softness found on every specimen of this variety is likely related to the heavily broken reverse die, a series of chips that apparently occurred during the initial hardening process rather than by stages as coins were struck. Early Capped Bust Gold Eagles are known for their many varieties, caused by differences in the number of stars, eagle styles, overdates, and variations in the size of figures in the dates. Coins struck before 1807, including this 1800 issue, notably do not display any mark of value, adding further intrigue to their historical significance.

This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.
