Forged by Hizen Tadahiro during the Early Edo Period, between 1624 and 1688, in the Hizen Province. This katana features an intricate tsuba, or handguard, with a nanako pattern. This translates to fish roe, and such a pattern required exceptional precision and skill. It is further adorned with a lion-dog and a dragon, in a mix of gold and copper.

The blade of this sword was shortened to fit a more modern style of fighting, but is still in immaculate condition. For storage and preservation, the blade has been removed and is in the wooden scabbard at the back of the case.

This katana is a striking example of a sword from the Tadayoshi School, which was founded by his father, Hizen Tadayoshi.
