Product Details:
This is a PCGS graded coin. You will receive the coin pictured. You are purchasing a 1866-S Without Motto Liberty Head Eagle $10 graded XF-45 by PCGS. This orange-gold '66-S No Motto eagle is toned orange-gold and displays light, even high-point wear. Marks are relative few, and none are worthy of individual description. An interesting story about the No Motto gold coinage at San Francisco. Motto reverse was intended for use on all 1866 half eagles, eagles, and double eagles. Dies were prepared at the Philadelphia Mint in time for 1866 coinage and Philadelphia struck all three issues exclusively with the motto. The Motto reverse dies were also shipped to San Francisco, but the cross-country journey was time consuming and by the time the new dies arrived at San Francisco, that facility had already struck the three denominations without a Motto. San Francisco Motto varieties also exist, but in each case, the 1866-S No Motto variety is rarer. The 1866-S No Motto Eagle has a production of only 8,500 pieces. PCGS states that only '40 to 50 [survivors are] known.' This is an excellent coin to add to your collection.

Liberty Head $10 Gold Eagle (1840-1907)- In 1840 the Classic Head design was retired, and the longest running Design for Gold Pieces in the US was Launched. The Liberty Head Design was used for the Eagle, Half Eagle and Quarter Eagle. The same pattern was used for large and half cents. Featuring a Head of Liberty facing Left wearing a Coronet shaped crown saying Liberty with Hair tied up with beads in a bun often called braided hair. The reverse design used the same pattern as the Half Dollar and Quarter featuring an eagle turned 3/4 forward and to the right with a Heraldic Shield on its chest and arrows and an Olive branch grasped in its claws. The Series remains popular with collectors and investors alike as there are both rare and common dates to accommodate the two markets as one.
