Product Details:
This certified U.S. commemorative gold coin 1903 McKinley Louisiana Purchase Exposition Gold Dollar G$1 represents the nation's inaugural commemorative gold issue. Struck in 90% fine gold at the Philadelphia Mint to celebrate the centennial of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, this coin features a left-facing portrait of President William McKinley—who signed the exposition's authorizing legislation prior to his 1901 assassination. Designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber, this classic commemorative issue had a net distribution of just 17,500 pieces after unsold examples were melted. Graded MS 65 by CACG, this Gem Uncirculated specimen exhibits pristine mint luster, exceptionally clean surfaces, and bold detail across McKinley's portrait and the reverse olive branch framing the dual dates. This certified gold dollar serves as an outstanding centerpiece for commemorative gold specialists, type set builders, and advanced numismatists.
