Product Details:
Struck in 90% fine silver at the New Orleans Mint, this 1882 O/S Morgan Silver Dollar $1 features one of the most famous and highly sought-after over-mintmark varieties in the entire series, officially recognized on the TOP-100 list as VAM-5 Broken S. Created when an 'O' mintmark was punched over a reverse die originally intended for San Francisco with an incomplete or broken 'S', this historic variety is instantly identifiable by clear undertype remnants within and around the mintmark area. Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse showcases Lady Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap and coronet inscribed LIBERTY, framed by thirteen stars, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and dated 1882. The reverse displays an eagle with outspread wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, inscribed UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, In God We Trust, and ONE DOLLAR. Certified Mint State 63 by NGC, this premium mintmark error exhibits radiant cartwheel luster, sharp strike details, and original antique rim patina.
