Buy & Sell Chinese Panda Gold Coins

Chinese Panda Gold Coins China issued its first gold coins picturing an adorable Panda design in 1982, in sizes of 1, 1/2, 1/4, and 1/10 troy oz. of .999 fine Gold. Beginning in 1983 another size was added – 1/20 oz. Larger Panda coins were issued in some years, weighing 5 and 12 oz.

Panda Coin Design

These popular coins were issued in proof-like brilliant uncirculated quality with a different design each year, through 2000. A freeze of the design was announced with the 2001 issues – and thus the 2002 Pandas were identical to 2001. But collectors spoke up on behalf of annual changes, and China Mint has responded by reversing their policy, and announcing new designs for the 2003 Pandas.

Chinese Gold Panda coins aren’t like all other gold bullion annual releases. While some sovereign mints use the exact same design each year on both sides, the Chinese Mint uses only the same design motif on the obverse each year, with the reverse remaining the same in each release year.

Obverse: Depiction of the Temple of Heaven in the center with Chinese characters on top saying "Zhonghua Renmin Gongheguo" meaning People's Republic of China and the bottom the year of issue. If the issue is a commemorative issue, the theme will be marked here also.

Reverse: Different portraits of panda that changes every year (except for 2001 and 2002, which share the same design).

Although legal tender in the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Gold Panda coin is predominantly issued by the Chinese Mint as a gold bullion investment coin.

Gold Panda Coin Sets

If you have a hard time deciding which gold Panda coin is right for your collection, there are entire gold Panda coin sets where you can get every denomination for a particular year of issue. The China mint releases annual proof sets, containing a proof variation of the particular design being issued in a given year. Such Panda Proof Sets will also include a Certificate of Authenticity and original government packaging.

Silver Pandas Also Available

The Chinese Silver Panda coin is among the oldest silver bullion coins available right now. The Mexican Silver Libertad coin debuted in 1982 from the Mexican Mint, and that was followed one year later in 1983 by the Chinese Silver Panda.

However, unlike the Silver Libertad coin, the Silver Panda was originally available only as a proof coin. From 1983 to 1985, the Chinese Silver panda was issued as a coin with less than one ounce of silver that had a purity of only 90%. The Silver Panda was not struck in 1986 or 1988, but in 1987 the Chinese Mint brought the coin up to standards of international investment and released Silver Panda coins in 1 Troy oz size with a purity of .999 silver content. Since 1989, the Chinese Silver Panda coin has been issued by the Chinese Mint as an investment-grade bullion coin.

In 2016, an adjustment was made and Chinese Silver Panda coins now feature weights marked in Grams.

Ten Reasons People Collect Coins, Medals And Tokens An old rare coin adage goes, “People are like crows, they like things big and shiny.” I don’t know a lot about corvid habits, but I have met literally thousands of collectors. Take my word for it, humans do like shiny objects. Every collector approaches the hobby with an individual slant. Most fall into predictable collecting patterns or follow distinct blue prints. And some wi
Building A Twentieth Century Type Set The twentieth century was one of great change for the United States. In 1899 the US was a budding world power. By 1999, we were the world leader. The century saw many changes, and through these exciting times, rare coins evolved along with our great nation. To begin the century, President Theodore Roosevelt pushed a redesign of all the circulating coinage. At the time this was called his “pe
Understanding Silver Bullion And Building Wealth In the wake of the national news about #silversqueeze there is a lot of hype surrounding the precious metals market. This investment arena has always been volatile and unpredictable, but we believe in a sound strategy of accumulation will build wealth. We would never suggest an all eggs in one basket approach, but a well-rounded portfolio would be lacking if it wasn’t positioned in tangible

U.S. Coins and Jewelry has been my go to for buying and selling coins, silver and gold for years. My most recent experience was quick and easy. The staff are friendly and helpful. They really take the fear and uncertainty out of investing in precious metals and coins, and their exchange fees are very reasonable.
